Metal halide or HID lighting systems consist of several different components, which may be purchased separately, as a retrofit kit, or as a completely assembled fixture. A metal halide lamp system consists of the lamp, socket or lamp holder, ballast, reflector and power cord. Additionally, there may be many unfamiliar terms, which add to the confusion.
